Wookiee Hunter
10 November 2003
Author: Jim Williams
Source: Original
Wookiee Hunters are the archetypal result of the challenging and all too often lethal rite of passage most Wookiees face on the surface of Kashyyyk. The lower canopies and surface level of Kashyyyk is so deadly Wookiees never have to leave their homeworld to live a life of adventure and full of challenges.

At the beginning of his training, the Hunter learns how to use the two traditional weapons of Kashyyyk: the bowcaster and the ryyk blade. The bowcaster takes advantage of the Wookiee’s prodigious strength and its power allows the Hunter to face the deadly predators of Kashyyyk’s lower canopies. The ryyk blade allows the Hunter to deal death silently when necessary. As his training progresses, hindering, unfamiliar terrain bothers the Hunter to a lesser degree. His combat reflexes develop into an almost supernatural awareness of danger. The vital ability to perform calmly under pressure and focus his spirit at critical times is developed. Perhaps most importantly, the Wookiee Hunter learns to craft his own bowcaster and produce a formidable weapon worthy of his ancestors.

In his later years, hunting becomes almost second nature. The bowcaster is an extension of the Hunter’s mind and body. Within the canopies of Kashyyyk, the Wookiee hunter reigns supreme later in his career. The Imperial military learned firsthand the lethal consequences for occupying the ancestral home of the Wookiee. While the occupation was able to physically and politically occupy Kashyyyk, it was completely unable to quash the independent spirit of the Wookiee. Striking from their hidden bases in the depths of Kashyyyk, the hunters would fade back into the deadly lower canopies. Imperial casualties mounted as they launched patrols and forays in pursuit. Ironically, a significant proportion of the casualties were the result of accidents and native wildlife, but the overwhelming majority of Imperial losses were attributed to the ranks of the Wookiee Hunters. Their reputation grew as Army morale sunk. Stormtroopers were sent in, but the slight increase in mission rate success was overshadowed by even greater losses in personnel and equipment. Finally, the Imperials turned the Trandoshan slavers loose on the populace of Kashyyyk in an effort to lessen their own losses ( and allow a separate species of alien scum to absorb the difference) and force the honor-bound Wookiees to launch strikes against the Dosh slavers capturing their family members. COMPNOR declared the policy a success; the Imperial military units and profit-driven Trandoshan slavers used other words to describe their experiences on Kashyyyk…

Variant Abilities

Variant 1: Wookiee Martial Training
At 1st level, the Wookiee Hunter learns Exotic Weapon Proficiency (bowcaster) and Exotic Weapon Proficiency (ryyk blade) instead of Weapon Group Proficiency (blaster pistol and blaster rifle).

Variant 2: Master Crafter
Instead of the Evasion SQ, at 6th level the Wookiee Hunter may construct Mastercraft +1 bowcasters.

Variant 3: Kashyyyk Guerrilla
At 8th level and again at 14th, during the period of time when Kashyyyk was enslaved and Trandoshans hunted the Wookiees on their own homeworld, Wookiee Hunters may apply Expert Stalker against Imperial military troops and Trandoshan slavers (Medium “Predators”). If the Imperial occupation occurs after the Wookiee Hunter has acquired Expert Stalker, the “target” of the SQ may be switched the next time the Wookiee Hunter gains a new level. This switch is irrevocable, however.

Variant 4: Vengeful Ghost
If the Wookiee Hunter possesses the Know Enemy feat (against Humans) and has applied his Expert Stalker against the Empire’s troops, then at 15th level the Wookiee Hunter may ignore armor DR worn by Imperial troops.

Variant 5: Intimidating Presence
During the time of Imperial Occupation, a Wookiee Hunter’s Frightful Presence at 19th level is treated as if it were the feat against Imperial troops and Trandoshan slavers.

Type: Archetypes
Alignment: Independent

DarkOdionWhat does BGH stand for?
Jedi WrestlerI like this development. My only suggestion would be to allow them to keep weapon Proficiency (blaster rifles) and drop weapon proficiency (simple weapons) instead. Wookies should be able to use the [ . . . ]
