HardTek PB-9 Personal Defense Weapon
1 May 2002
Author:
Source: Original
DESCRIPTION:
The PB-9 is a small personal defense weapon that consists of the plasma chamber designed for a blaster pistol mated with the frame of a compact shoulder weapon. The PB-9 has an improved range thanks to a longer focusing barrel and improved accuracy with the help of an integral targeting computer.

SPECIFICATIONS:
Length: 62 cm
Width: 6 cm
Height: 20 cm
Weight: 1.5 kg (unloaded)
Accessory Mount: 1 Type II mount

HISTORY:
HardTek developed the PB-9 after assessing the needs of various military and paramilitary personnel who needed a smaller and more maneuverable weapon than the blaster carbine. The design team laid out the three principals that they wanted the new weapon to embody; Reliability, Control, and Accuracy. They went for the novel approach of using a smaller plasma chamber in shortened carbine frame. A targeting computer was added to the weapon to further enhance accuracy.

FEATURES:
The PB-9 offers a potential user the combination of a lightweight weapon and sturdy construction thanks to an advanced polymer/alloy design. The larger frame in conjunction with a folding stock grants the user a more stability when firing.

Because of its relative small size it is a perfect weapon for close quarters combat where a longer weapon would be difficult to manage. The small size is also a bonus for pilots of all types, as it can easily be stowed away for emergency use.

The PB-9’s energy matrix can accommodate one standard power pack and an energy cell. The power pack will provide power for 100 shots, assuming a full charge, while the energy cell can keep the integrated targeting computer operating for 25 hours. Designers also included an innovative built-in power-link that can attach to a power generator for sustained operation and to recharge the energy matrix.

Below the barrel of the weapon designers have installed a single Type II accessory mount for optional components. The accessory mount can accommodate any weapon accessory manufactured from Hardtek if they conform to Type I or Type II standards. This flexibility gives the user the ability to customize the weapon in fashion suited with his mission or personal preference. Common accessories that are fitted on this weapon are the K-1 bayonet, or the EL-2 light grenade launcher.

The PB-9 comes with an integrated CATS-1 targeting computer that runs the length of the gun above the barrel. The targeting computer uses a wireless link to communicate with either a set of goggles or helmet fitted with CATS-1 equipment. The wearer has two modes of operation for the targeting system, the most commonly used grants him normal vision, but a targeting reticule indicates where the weapon is pointing. The other mode simply allows the user to see an image from the point of view of the weapon; this can be useful for looking around corners without exposing your head. In either mode the targeting computer offers help by adjusting the reticule for deflection and other environment conditions. The wireless link can communicate with the goggles to a range of 50 meters under ideal circumstances.

Customers who register their PB-9 with Hardtek are entitled to a 3-standard year transferable-warranty.
