Renegade
30 January 2003
Author: Silent
Source: Original
The Renegade is prey, but any intelligent hunter knows that even the smallest Womp Rat can turn around and bite him if he has no other choice; Thus, some of the deepest and most intricate contests in the Galaxy come from the frequently deadly hide-and-seek that the two play. Renegades are simply anyone on the run from the "law" and have hardened his wits, ingenuity and nerve by escaping capture time and time again. They can have been anything in the past, from high nobles that have been desposed by unfriendly revolutions, to well-trained operatives that work deeply within enemy territory, or even the common criminal who racks up crime after crime on his warrant; Jedi occasionaly become Renegades sometimes, particularly if they go rogue or if they attempt to survive the Purge. However all these characters share one common thing: the constant feeling that they are being hunted, and that someday they will have to make a stand...
Renegade - d20 Stats
Requirements: To qualify to become a renegade, a character must fulfill all of the following criteria:
    Skills: Hide +6, Bluff +6, Spot +4, Disguise +4
    Feats: Run, Sharp-Eyed
Special: To become a renegade, a character must be under an active warrant by some kind of fairly powerful organization, i.e. the New Order, New Republic Intelligence, the Bounty Hunters Guild, etc. He need not necessarily deserve this warrant, he just needs to have it on his head.

Vitality: 1D8 per level.

The Renegade’s Class Skills are as follows:Bluff (Cha), Craft (Int), Disguise (Cha), Escape Artist (Dex), Forgery (Int), Gather Information (Cha), Hide (Dex), Intimidate (Cha), Knowledge (any) (Int), Listen (Wis), Move Silently (Dex), Profession (Wis), Read/Write Language (none), Search (Int), Sense Motive (Wis), Speak Language (none), Spot (Wis), and Survival (Wis).

Special: If the character has at least one level in a Force-Using Class and the Control feat, he also receives Force Stealth (Cha) as class skill. However, his levels as a Renegade are still considered non-Force-using.

Class Features

Starting Feats. The Renegade is proficient with all simple weapons and blaster pistols.

Persona: The Renegade can rarely live by his own name and survive: he soon creates an alternate identity and constructs a false identity under which to live. This false identity is carefully researched and often comes complete with its own forged papers, a carefully put-together personality and well-rehearsed background. While the Renegade uses this disguise, all Search, Spot, Listen, Gather Information, Computer Use, and Sense Motive DCs for detecting his real persona are increased by +2. Compiling this alter-ego takes about two weeks and generally costs around 3d4*100 credits to create. If the disguise is ever penetrated, the Renegade must make a new identity. The DC increase changes to +4 at 5th Level, and to +6 at 9th.

Watched: For most people, the sense that you are being watched is merely a sign of paranoia. For Renegades at 2nd Level, it is a finely honed sense of certain danger. Whenever the Renegade is being directly observed by some living person hostile to him, he may take a Wisdom check plus his Renegade Level against DC 20 to sense that he is being "watched". At 7th Level, he may even extend this to droids and to indirect observation (i.e. by a hidden camera).

Bonus Feat: At 3rd and 8th Level, the Renegade may select a bonus feat from the following list: Alertness, Dodge, Heroic Surge, Improved Initiative, Lightning Reflexes, Mimic, Persuasive, Quick Draw, Quickness, Skill Emphasis(any class skill), or Toughness. He must meet the prerequisites for these feats in order to take them.

Uncanny Dodge: Starting at 4th level, the Renegade gains the extraordinary ability to react to danger before his senses would normally allow him to do so. At 4th level and above, the Renegade retains his Dexterity bonus to Defense (if any) regardless of being caught flat-footed or struck by a hidden attacker. (He still loses his Dexterity bonus to Defense if immobilized.) Note that this level of Uncanny Dodge does not negate flank attacks. If he has another class that permits Uncanny Dodge, give him the next highest level of this Special Ability.
At 10th level, the Renegade can no longer be flanked, since he can react to opponents on opposite sides of him as easily as he can react to a single attacker. This defense denies scoundrels the ability to use flank attacks to sneak attack the Renegade.

Evade Critical: At 6th Level the Renegade is so quick that it is almost impossible to hit him, no matter how much a hunter tries. When a Critical Hit is rolled against him, he may apply a +4 Dodge bonus to his defense for the threat confirmation roll.

Trandoshan JediVery cool. I like this PrC
TrampDefinately an interesting PrC. I like it.
farr0095I really like the idea. It's fresh and different, and gives an interesting twist to a 'hunted' character. Thanks for the PrC!
